summary

Anthropological fields and cultural practices in the Maghreb and the Middle East are at the heart of this latest issue of Turath. The exploration of the relationships between scholarly cultural practices and popular practices, as well as the study of trajectories that range from established traditions to new forms of information and communication, are characteristic of the fruitful heterogeneity and rich analytical perspectives found in the various texts compiled here. This issue encompasses a diversity of topics (from communicational mediation to rites of passage, and including epideictic discourses), a variety of physical territories (Tunisia, Algeria, Iran, the Shatt al-Arab region, Somalia, Ethiopia, Mauritania, Yemen, and others), and a plurality of spaces with strong symbolic charges (ritual, political, artistic, etc.). Examples include the possession cults within the Zangi tradition (Stephen Prochazka, Bahram Gharedaghi, Kloudeh) and the different historical and ceremonial temporalities. For instance, the study by Meriem Bouzid on the "hair ceremony" in the Sebiba cycle in Djanet highlights these elements.
